Social Determinants of Health and Youth: Impact and Strategies for Change

The purpose of this session is to examine social determinants of health and health disparities in at-risk youth and to discuss successful intervention practices. The importance of this session is three-fold: 1) social determinants of health are predictive of poor health and health inequalities; 2) in a demographically and culturally changing society intervention is warranted to improve population health; and 3) interventions for youth will prepare them to be health stewards and leaders of the future.
Session Objectives: Describe social determinants of health and subsequent health impact on minority youth. Discuss best practices for preparing at-risk youth to be leaders in reducing health disparities.
