Statement of Purpose and Institute Overview:
The purpose of this Learning Institute is to assist health department staff in developing the skills needed to evaluate, select and prepare documentation suitable for submitting as evidence to meet conformity of the National Public Health Department Accreditation Standards and Measures Version 1.0. As the organization that accredits public health departments, the Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB) is responsible for preparing health department applicants to undergo the accreditation process, including the selection of documentation as required. Solid documentation is the foundation for the assessment of a health department by Site Visitors. It is also the basis for making a determination for an accreditation decision. Thus it is imperative that health department staff have the skills needed to assess their documentation against accreditation requirements. The Learning Institute will provide experiential training to develop skills through lectures, group discussions and hands-on exercises. Lectures will provide the guidelines and requirements for documentation. The course will also provide the knowledge needed to understand the intent and interpretation of the Standards and Measures, thereby giving participants sound footing for selecting appropriate documentation. As a part of the lecture and discussion, practical options for organizing electronic documentation at the health department will be presented. The hands-on activity will put this knowledge into practice by providing documentation assessment activities directly related to the lecture material. Group discussion will include opportunities to share perspectives as faculty validates acceptable and unacceptable characteristics of the exercise documentation.
Session Objectives: Define PHAB requirements for documents used for accreditation measure conformity;
Demonstrate how to organize electronic documentation for submission; and
Demonstrate their ability to select appropriate documentation for measure conformity.
