Effective Use of Health Impact Initiatives

Health Impact Assessments (HIA) are an important tool in promoting health in all policies. In this session, presenters will address the knowledge gaps in the use of HIAs in informing policy at the federal level, in addition to state and local levels. Presenters also discuss successes in implementing HIAs to build political and grassroots support for health promotion through legislation, community organizing and collaboration. Additionally, preseters also discuss the importance of examining the cultural and social impacts of HIA proposed policy changes on communities of color.
Session Objectives: Discuss HIA implementation at the federal level, present frameworks to evaluate HIAs and discuss cultural and social impacts of HIAs.
