Oral Health 2014 is a multi-year, strategic initiative to build leadership capacity and support for state and local collaboration to improve oral health in eighteen states. This presentation will describe the implementation process and early outcomes of the initiative through the experience of two of the state grantees, including the impact of collective engagement and technical resources on their ability to engage and lead a sustainable collaborative infrastructure. This session will identify several important levers for advancing equity in collaborative, interagency efforts to implement “health in all policies.” Opportunities and obstacles for prioritizing equity –particularly in the implementation of such policies – will shared and illustrated using local examples. This session is also intended to start a dialogue with professionals across the country and the south about what it means to advance health equity in the southern United States. The session will also highlight the environmental determinants of health disparities in 10 communities.

Session Objectives: Describe a process of cultivating local leaders to effectively develop a sustainable diverse statewide collaboration of engaged partners and community leaders to impact key priorities to improve oral health. Identify three concrete strategies for addressing equity through Health in All Policies implementation. Describe strategies and methods for advancing health equity in the Southern United States. Analyze the association between the percentage of racial/ethnic minority population and walkability in 345 Zip codes in 10 communities in the US.
