Older adults in rural area face specific challenges in disease management and health care. This session includes the following studies to address rural disparities in aging-related issues.
Session Objectives: 1. To describe, compare, and contrast five common measures of rurality in US counties, overall and by region; demonstrate how the population prevalence of depression varies rurality, and how the inferences about the association between rurality and depression depends upon rurality measurement. 2. To compare the health needs of Alaskan seniors to those in the continental US. 3. To assess environmental health awareness in older adults in Southern Illinois based on their knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors. 4. To assess quality of care, utilization outcomes, and cost-effectiveness.
