Older Adults and Disability

Tuesday, November 5, 2013: 4:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.
Oral
It is important to address the health needs of older adults with disabilities. Among topics this session addresses include: relation between a usual source of care and patient and provider interactions among older adults; relation between race and ethnicity, a usual source of care and receipt of preventive services; socioeconomic predictors of falls among older adults; effect of financial strain on older adults' unmet needs; and impact of unmet need on health status in community-dwelling older adults.
Session Objectives: 1. To examine whether socioeconomic characteristics (income, assets, and education) predict the likelihood of falling among population-based sample of older adults in a longitudinal tracking study. 2. To assess the effects of financial strain and socioeconomic factors on the unmet needs of community-dwelling older adults with disabilities. 3. To explore the impact of unmet needs for personal assistance with ADL, personal assistance with IADL, and access of healthcare on health status.
