Healthy Communities for Healthy Aging

How and where we live, eat, work, play, and socialize profoundly influence our physical and mental health. This session will mainly cover the following important topics related to this issue: best practices creating age-friendly communities; improving access to online health education resources for older adults in underserved communities in Boston; the perceived effects of the healthy communities through healthy food program on its older adult participants; creating age-friendly cities, communities and organizations: Best practices from the US; and evidence of improvements in health from age-friendly NYC.
Session Objectives: 1. To determine a non-monetary national award program can nudge communities into adopting local policies and community-wide programs that foster health and age-friendly communities. 2. To discuss the Healthy Communities through Healthy Food (HCHF). 3. To discuss the Age-friendly NYC program.
