As the population of elderly citizens in the U.S. expands, paralleled by an increase in the prevalence of dementia, the role of respite care within the healthcare system will increase in importance and demand.
Session Objectives: 1.to study public health actions by international bodies (such as WHO and PAHO) on dementia and national bodies on issues of access to diagnosis, stigma and systems of care. 2. to describe a range of specific person-centered care practices and summarize the scientific and clinical evidence to date of the effectiveness of these practices among persons with dementia. 3. To examine mortality and lost productivity trends for this age group in the United States. 4. To conduct a study regarding caregivers increase physical activity as a conduit to maintaining better health and well-being.
