Advocacy in Big Sky Country

This presentation will provide examples of how affiliate members have worked with APHA staff to advocate for important public health issues. Specifically, I will talk about the recent advocacy work the Montana Public Health Association has done during the Public Health Action Campaign, APHA's annual congressional summer grassroots advocacy campaign. Through this example, participants will understand how to most effectively use APHA tools to engage in advocacy activities.

Learning Objectives:
Demonstrate how MPHA pulled together their members to advocate for the goals of the PHACT campaign including through face to face meetings with members of Congress and their district staff and media advocacy (LTEs and Op-eds) in support of public health funding. Describe how we developed capacity to undertake activities.
