Consumer outreach in Illinois: Implications and opportunities for public health

This presentation will first outline Illinois' plans for and progress toward coverage expansion under the Affordable Care Act, and will explain what it means to implement a state-federal partnership exchange, as opposed to a federally facilitated or state-based model.

This presentation will also address implementation of consumer outreach and enrollment programs, with a focus on the potential role of the public health system in these efforts, and the potential impact on population health outcomes of successful outreach and increased coverage.

I am responsible for establishing the Health Insurance Marketplace in the state of Illinois, the fifth largest state in the U.S., in partnership with the federal government.
