Review of Findings from the Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) Study

Over the past two decades, a robust and growing literature has provided significant evidence of the relationships between social and economic conditions and health. These findings are informing the development of new areas of public health research and practice. They are also being used to establish targets for the health of the U.S. population. In this presentation, we will provide an overview of the connection between early childhood, and health inequities by reviewing select findings from the Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) Study. We will also briefly discuss an approach for exploring determinants that contribute to differential opportunities for children and their families to have access to conditions needed for health and well-being. We will close with a few examples of how this information is informing our work in the Division of Violence Prevention.
