Tuesday, November 5, 2013 : 9:00 a.m. - 9:20 a.m.

The CDC has recently initiated population based surveillance for adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) including emotional, physical, and sexual abuse using the Behavioral Risk Factors Surveillance System (BRFSS). Between 2009 and 2011, the BRFSS has administered the ACE module to over 100,000 adults. This presentation will highlight recent research being carried out by the CDC using the BRFSS data to examine the long term health consequences of ACEs on both physical and mental health. In addition, protective factors will be assessed and discussed for inclusion in future intervention studies.
