Technology has opened up new vistas for education of girls and women in many parts of the world. Empowerment of girls and women through education and gainful economic employment are known to promote their health and wellbeing. While rapid penetration of technology to corners of the globe is noted in the 21st century, the existence of the digital divide between the “haves” and the “have-nots” is a sobering reality. This paper explores the challenges and opportunities presented by technology-aided open education and how best to leverage it to promote education and health of girls and women globally. The importance of ‘local bridging' and related processes and strategies are identified and discussed with appropriate examples.
