At New York Medical College , we worked in collaboration with the former first lady of Malawi to develop a safe Mother Hood project. Malawi has one of the highest maternal mortality rates in the world. Two of the faculty members at NYMC worked with a group of medical and matriculated graduate public health students to raise awareness about the dire public health challenges faced by these Malawi mothers.

As a part of the ongoing efforts, there were student fund raisers, community outreach activities and we collected supplies to develop Mama Kits and support services ata rural clinic in Malawi. In addition , the Think Local Act Global Team raised funds to build a maternity waiting home in Malawi. This was a meaningful expereince for all the diverse stake holders who worked collobaratively at the grass roots community level to affect change globally.
