Mens health: Medical myths and media mendacity

Monday, November 4, 2013 : 10:45 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.

Ian Banks, European Mens Health Forum, Ballynahinch, United Kingdom
Mens health is shrouded in myth and misconception. Inequalities in health are often ‘blamed' on possession of the Y chromosome yet huge variations in life expectancy exist between men within towns, countries and continents. Social determinants in health are closely link to these variations. This is all compounded by poor/incorrect/absent information for men not least in the popular media. There is now solid evidence base that mens health issues can be successfully addressed and this presentation will highlight this work particularly in Europe.
