Principles for establishing a robust division of violence prevention in a local public health department

This presentation will describe the framework and principles for establishing a robust Division of Violence Prevention in a local Public Health Department serving a mid-size urban community. The presentation will outline the over arching principles that guide the work of a Division of Violence Prevention including the use of a health equity and social justice framework, ensuring multi- sector partnerships at local, state, and federal level, understand the connections between multiple forms of violence, and being trauma informed. This presentation will give examples of local community based violence prevention programming that is data driven, evidence informed , addresses the spectrum of primary, secondary, and tertiary care, and are rooted principles of our approach.
