How state public health agencies work across sectors to take a comprehensive approach to prescription drug control

The National Association of State Alcohol and Drug Abuse Directors (NASADAD) works with the State Directors, or appointed Single State Authority for the SAMHSA Substance Abuse Prevention and Treatment Block Grant funds. NASADAD is a private, not-for-profit educational, scientific, and informational organization that works the State Drug and Alcohol Agency Directors. NASADAD serves as a focal point for the examination of alcohol and other drug related issues of common interest to both other national organizations and federal agencies. Among those federal agencies with which NASADAD has worked are the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and its Centers on Substance Abuse Treatment and Prevention (CSAT and CSAP), the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA); the Center for Medicaid/Medicare Services (CMS); the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA); the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA); the U.S. Department of Education (ED); the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ); the Social Security Administration (SSA), the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT); the Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP); other executive branch agencies; the Congress; national associations; and individuals in their dealings with the States. This presentation will describe how state public health agencies work across sectors and with our treatment and recovery partners to take a comprehensive approach to prescription drug control.

He has also served as Associate Director of Government Relations at Smith, Bucklin and Associates, where he directed government affairs programs for a variety of health care clients, including the American Psychiatric Nurses Association (APNA). Robert has a B.A. in Political Science from Drew University and completed graduate work in Government at The Johns Hopkins University.
