Fall prevention: A view from a clinical practitioner

Monday, November 4, 2013 : 1:10 p.m. - 1:20 p.m.

Lisa Killinger, DC, Department of Diagnosis & Radiology, Palmer College of Chiropractic, Davenport, IA
Fall prevention works best when clinicians of all types take the time to assess each patient's specific risk factors, and tailor a prevention program to the particular needs of that patient. First, Home Safety Checklists will be introduced to assess fall risks. Secondly, the range of health issues that relate to falls will be briefly explored. Lastly, evidence-based multi-factorial fall prevention strategies will be shared. Four major components of fall prevention will be emphasized: strength, flexibility, balance, and posture. Fall prevention is best accomplished through good communication and collaboration between members of the geriatric care team. This session will help make Fall Prevention simple for a wide range of clinicians in a variety of clinical settings.
