The public health system in Wales has mounted an effective response to the largest measles outbreak in the United Kingdom in two decades. In this presentation we describe our evaluation of the response, share the lessons learned from our experience that are relevant to an international audience and explain what actions we are taking to prevent future measles outbreaks in Wales.

Qualified on the content I am responsible for because: I am the Director of Health Protection, Public Health Wales. I have been a Consultant in Communicable Disease Control for 19 years. During the 2012/13 outbreak of measles in Wales I co-ordinated the public health response and played a key role in the media and messaging.
