Peace Corps' model of girls empowerment camps, called Camp GLOW (Girls Leading Our World) (along with similar boys' camps) are done in collaboration with local partners. These camps allow participants to develop a deeper understanding of the impact of gender inequality in their lives. In addition, campers identify pathways for growth, leadership, and opportunity that are consistent with their own values.

Learning Areas:

Assessment of individual and community needs for health education
Diversity and culture
Implementation of health education strategies, interventions and programs
Planning of health education strategies, interventions, and programs
Program planning

Learning Objectives:
Describe at least 3 interventions or sample activities that Volunteers and their community partners conduct with girls in Camp GLOW (Girls Leading Our World) that allow campers to understand the impact of gender roles and to empower them to improve their own lives and their communities. Identify at least 3 context-specific adaptations to the Camp GLOW model to make the interventions or camp activities more responsive to the health needs, cultural context, or specific priorities of the campers.
