The primary goals and basic principles of infection prevention and control are the same everywhere that oral healthcare is provided. Applying the principles in regional and site-specific healthcare settings requires a workforce that is educated, trained and resource-supported to effectively ensure provider, patient/population and environmental safety. This presentation will discuss infection prevention and control challenges and opportunities to enhance the global oral health workforce and to promote patient safety.

Qualified on the content I am responsible for because: I have provided infection prevention/control education and training in academic and community settings in the US and internationally for 28 years. I have authored papers, contributed to textbook chapters on infection prevention and control and authored CDC Guidelines for Infection Control in Dental Healthcare Settings, 2003. As Director of Occupational Health and Safety at The Forsyth Institute for past 18 years I serve as the patient safety advocate for the Forsyth Clinical Programs.
