This session will provide an overview of the findings from the 2012 School Health Policies and Practices Study (SHPPS). Sponsored and conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), SHPPS is the largest, most comprehensive assessment of school health programs in the United States. SHPPS also was conducted in 1994, 2000, and 2006. The 2012 study provides results from all 50 states and from a nationally representative sample of school districts. This information was obtained through web-based questionnaires administered to state- and district-level staff. The presentations will include a summary of results in the areas of health education, physical education and activity, health services, mental health and social services, nutrition services, healthy and safe school environment, and faculty and staff health promotion.
