Monday, November 4, 2013 : 8:30 a.m. - 8:35 a.m.

According to estimates of the World Health Organization, the World Bank, and other international organizations, the United States ranked 47th for its maternal mortality ratio (of 21 maternal deaths per 100,000 live births, 2010). Likewise, the US ranked 47th (along with two other countries) for its 2011neonatal mortality rate (of 4.3 neonatal deaths per 1,000 live births). Despite huge expenditure of resources, we continue to see an increase in adverse outcomes - - disproportionate among disparate populations.

We will describe parallels in adverse outcomes between the US and other developing countries, and focus on the leading causes of mortality and morbidity citing programs to address the issue.
