Playing it safe with hemophilia

Hemophilia affects an estimated 20,000 people in the United States. Hemophilia may result in severe complications, some of which are painful and potentially fatal. The Division of Blood Disorders (DBD), located within the National Center on Birth Defects and Developmental Disabilities, is committed to raising awareness about hemophilia and reducing the morbidity and mortality associated with this disorder. In conjunction with ICF International, DBD created this animated video in which friends with hemophilia talk about playing sports, growing up, and the importance of making smart decisions. By raising awareness about hemophilia and promoting education on the management of this disorder, this video contributes to improved health outcomes for young people affected by hemophilia.

Qualified on the content I am responsible for because: I was the technical monitor on a contract awarded to ICF International to conduct formative research to inform the development of the video and to test the messages in the video. As a Project Officer on two large cooperative agreements aimed at developing health promotion programs for people with hemophilia, I have been involved in development of communication products and messages to raise awareness of hemophilia and educate people about the management of this disorder.
