Review of research and programs to prevent suicide among veterans

Recent research has identified Veteran groups with increased rates of suicide and non-fatal suicide events. Results from these studies are used to inform the development of new suicide prevention programs and evaluate the impact of newly implemented initiatives. Results from studies of risk for suicide among Veterans of U.S. military service will be reviewed and discussed in the context of the development of recommendations for clinical care and complementary suicide prevention programs designed to promote use of crisis support service and engagement with mental health service providers. The session will include a discussion of the aims, objectives, and strategy of existing suicide prevention programs, intersection between results from research and mental health services, and newly emerging initiatives.
