Selecting and adapting an evidence-based approach

This session discusses criteria to use when selecting evidence-based approaches to best fit a particular community. In order to optimize fit, adaptation of a program may be needed. The content of this session suggests steps to adapt an intervention and determine the balance of adaptation and maintaining fidelity to the original intervention. Once public health practitioners find evidence-based approaches, it can be a challenge to strategically select one that is a relevant and compatible “fit” with their population, organization, and community setting. Once they do select an intervention, it can be difficult to know what they can change or adapt to increase the intervention's fit. This content addresses some of those challenges of translating evidence into real community practice settings.
