Principles of hypothesis testing and confidence interval estimation: Part 2

Sunday, November 3, 2013 : 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.

Michael A. Joseph, PhD, MPH, Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, School of Public Health at SUNY Downstate Medical Center, Brooklyn, NY
Using practical, hands-on exercises, students will use SPSS to conduct and interpret analyses involving Chi-square and Fisher's exact tests, odds ratios and relative risks, Pearson's correlation coefficient and simple linear regression.

Learning Areas:

Biostatistics, economics
Epidemiology

Learning Objectives:
Discuss appropriate uses for the odds ratio and relative risk. Differentiate between cross-sectional, case-control and cohort study designs. Describe research questions and type of data that lends itself to either one-way ANOVA, Chi-square, odds ratio, relative risk, correlation, or simple linear regression.
