Sunday, November 3, 2013 : 4:45 p.m. - 5:20 p.m.

Fred Mills, MPA, Global Health Fellows Program II, Public Health Institute, Washington, DC
Participants will be introduced to key competencies required for professional success in today's global public health world. Drawing on current research as well as trends in job/career requirements in the field, this segment will help both new entrants and mid-career professionals identify promising areas for professional growth and development. The presentation will also take a snapshot look at how well curricula at schools of public health may – or may not – help students acquire these key competencies, and what current or prospective students can do to ensure their course of study best positions them for success in today's job market. By the end of this sub-session participants will have a clearer sense of the critical skill sets needed for success in global public health, and a head start on developing a personal plan for acquiring these key competencies.
