Screening and reporting results

Reporting findings of a systematic review occurs in two parts of the paper: in Methods and in Results. Authors must employ brevity when describing search results as there are many components on which to report. However, brevity is no excuse for ignoring key elements of reporting, especially as all data is readily available in the workbook. During this session, participants will be provided opportunities to see how different citation management software can be used to screen titles and abstracts, and to record inclusion/exclusion of each item. While screening full text of articles is done outside the realm of the citation management software, data concerning inclusion/exclusion is recorded within the citation management software so that values can be input into the workbook, thus resulting in a PRISMA flowchart to be created. Participants will also be provided with guidance for the elements to include in the Methods section as well as in the Results of their manuscript. Lastly, we will provide suggestions for storage and archiving of all results for future reference.

Identify eligibility criteria based on aims; List different types of citation management software; Compare citation management software and describe how similarities and differences might affect the data gathering process; Demonstrate the ability to add data critical for reporting to an Excel workbook; Design a PRISMA flowchart based on the data; Analyze data from the Excel workbook and the PRISMA flowchart; List the elements of the search process that go in the Methods portion of the paper. List the elements of the search process that go in the Results portion of the paper.
