Using a performance dashboard to improve public health decision-making

Dashboards have been used in a variety of business settings for many decades. Only recently have dashboards made their way into the public health field to inform decision-making. This session will demonstrate the live use of the Houston Department of Health and Human Services web-based dashboard. Participants will see the financial and operational measures used by the department to guide its decision-making. The session will retrace the steps undertaken by the department to quickly deploy a dashboard in response to a need for information in the midst of a budget crisis, the lessons learned since then, and the evolution of the dashboard.
