Organizational self assessment for addressing health inequities

The Organizational self-assessment for addressing health inequities is a tool kit adapted for use by state health departments. The original toolkit and guidance were developed by the Bay Area Regional Health Inequities Initiative (BARHII) for use by local health departments. The revised toolkit will be appropriate for use by state health departments. The presenter will give background to development of the original toolkit; provide experience of those health departments that have used the toolkit; and finally describe the revision process with four pilot states. Benefits of the toolkit are: 1) serve as the baseline measure of capacity, skills and areas for improvement to support health equity-focused activities; 2) inventory the presence of a set of research-based organizational and individual traits that support the ability to perform effective health equity-focused work; 3) provide information to guide strategic planning processes and/or the process of developing and implementing strategies that improve capacities; and serve as an ongoing tool to assess progress towards identified goals developed though the assessment process.
