This session provides a broad examination of American Indian and Alaska Native health, beginning with a review of those historical influences that have had serious impacts on Native health today. The health status of Native people is examined, highlighting those conditions that represent achievements and deficits in health status. As tribal and urban Native people assume increasing responsibility for their health, the session closes with a look ahead toward Native health status in the 21st Century.
