Jacqueline M. Leung, BA, College of Public Health, Department of Community and Behavioral Health, University of Iowa, E107 General Hospital, Box 62, Iowa City, IA 52242, 319-594-0244, jacqueline-leung@uiowa.edu

This qualitative study will consist of one-on-one and focus group sessions with Mexican migrant farm workers to examine their thoughts about their life history, health, and their experiences with health care access both within their home country and while in the United States. A total of eight participants will participate in the study. Three one-on-one sessions and two focus group sessions consisting of only male migrant workers will be conducted within the same county. The specific topics to be examined include their general experience with health care abroad and at home and their perceptions of their own health before and after being seen by a non-profit health care organization that specifically serves migrant farm workers in Iowa. The findings from this study hope to be congruent with other studies on migrant farm worker health and provide an opportunity to develop a quantitative research study to be implemented in 2007. The findings may have implications for community health workers to better serve an already hard-to-reach disparate population.
