Purpose: The ICCCP is currently in the planning phase for developing its Comprehensive Cancer Control State Plan. The ICCCP involved diverse partners in this planning process, including the Illinois Partnership for Cancer Prevention and Control (IPCPC), stakeholders, community members and cancer survivors to solicit their feedback and input. Method: The ICCCP held a series of town hall meetings in four different regions to discuss critical areas surrounding the Illinois cancer burden outlined in the state plan. A total of 144 individuals participated in these meetings. The IDPH and the American Cancer Society (ACS) co-facilitated the sessions and extended invitations to key community members requesting confirmation of attendance. Staff e-mailed the draft state plan to the meeting attendees. With this process, the attendees reviewed the plan prior to the meeting and were ready to provide feedback. Each meeting included a short presentation of the activities of the ICCCP and goals and priority areas of the state plan. The remainder of the meeting times allowed attendees to provide comments and discussion. Attendees' comments were then incorporated into the state plan by ICCCP staff. Results: The town hall meetings served as a venue for the larger community to provide valuable contribution to the state plan. The meetings provided the partners, stakeholders, community members and cancer survivors an opportunity to ask questions about the process, future direction and implementation of the state plan. Conclusion: Strong partnerships in the public and private sector are essential for creating effective planning process and designing the state plan.

• Recognize the need for strong input from the public and private sectors for creating useful development and design ideas for the state plan.
• Develop timelines for partners to provide feedback, to discuss the planning process and to help determine the future direction and implementation of the state plan.
• Identify diverse partners and stakeholders to be involved with the planning process for a comprehensive state plan.
• Create a forum to solicit comments from the public and partners.
• Analyze critical feedback from partners during the planning and review process to incorporate into the state plan.
