Advocacy with Impact: Framing Our Issues, Getting the Message Across
APHA and its affiliates depend on the power of organized members, constituents, and coalition partners to promote public health and influence policy at the national, regional, state, and local levels. This session, organized by the Advocacy Work Group of the Committee on Affiliates, will provide a hands-on, practical sharing of effective practices to strengthen affiliate advocacy. Case studies and a summary of results from the CoA’s 2005 national survey on affiliate advocacy will be included. Time for discussion among session participants is planned.
Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of the session, the participant will be able to: 1. Describe the elements of a successful advocacy campaign. 2. Discuss the advocacy efforts of two affiliates and be able to apply these lessons to his/her own affiliate.
