Evidence-based Population-focused Practice
This session will give an overview of several aspects of evidence-based population-focused public health nursing. The initial outcomes of a randomized clinical trial testing a public health nursing mental health promotion intervention delivered to Mexican American mothers and their children will be discussed. The goals of the Evidence Base in Public Health Nursing project will be examined. Also, the findings of the Wellness for a Lifetime study and interviews of individuals dying with HIV/AIDS will be discussed. In addition, the use of evidence in public health nursing services in Michigan local health departments will be described.
Learning Objectives: 1. Define evidence-based population-focused practice. 2. Identify outcomes of linked home visiting and after school classes for Mexican-American women and their children. 3. Discuss evidence-based measures to manage patients and families in vulnerable populations during end-of-life.
