| The “Global Health Leadership: Evidence for What Matters and why” session will focus on leadership development research and applications in international health. We will answer the question, “What is relevant in creating programs that cultivate leaders in developing countries?” The panelists are committed to sharing knowledge but also fostering interaction with the audience. We will share the results of a recent, cutting-edge evaluation of Packard and Gates funded leadership development programs including lessons learned on recruitment and selection, training and ways to support leaders post-program. Presenters will also explore the controversy regarding the nature of leadership as well as evidence and specific examples of how US-based leadership training combined with strong, ongoing support for learners can catalyze critical improvements in health services and policy in development countries. Participants will also learn about successful results of a collaborating US-Latin America partnership to transfer leadership devilment programming to the field will be shared. Time for discussion and audience comments and questions is included. | |||
| Learning Objectives: Participants will (1) learn different recruitment and selection strategies for leadership development programs, strengths and weaknesses of different training programs, and a variety of ways to support leaders once they have completed their program; (2) increase their understanding of evidence-based leadership frameworks and various controversies in developing global leadership programs; (3) increase their understanding of key characteristics in the relationship between US-based leadership training and on-going, in-country support initiatives; (4) identify elements necessary for the successful transfer of a national program to an international location and (5) have at least two new ideas about how to create innovative international partnerships to strengthen individual and organizational leadership capacity to improve health outcomes. | |||
