Academic and Public Health Partnerships Epidemiology : Poster Session
In this session, the learner will hear about collaborations between community and university partners to measure social capital as well as develop bioterrorism preparedness at the statewide level. The learner will also learn about using birth defects registry data, trends in childhood obesity, environmental factors and their impact on childhood asthma, congenital syphilis, as well as the relationship between religion and health.
Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of the session, the participant (learner) will be able to: 1. Describe the potential role of community and university partners in measuring social capital 2. Assess whether community organization density and/or participation are mediators between neighborhood socioeconomic status and individual health status 3. understand a method that can be used to derive spina bifida prevalence estimates among children and adolescents using birth defects registry data 4. Determine the association of residential environmental factors with asthma and asthma-like symptoms in schoolchildren 5. recognize the importance of historic BMI values in the evaluation of trends in obesity 6. Evaluate the effects of mediating and modifying factors for an improved foundational understanding of theoretical pathways for explaining the relationship between religion and health 7. Identify risk factors associated with congenital syphilis in a high morbidity area 8. Know the prevalence of overweight school children as well as the correlates of overweight in Tupelo, MS 9. Develop a practical methodology that can perform cross-matching analyses in order to share data across multiple large databases 10. To explain the related factors of excessive daytime sleepiness among Japanese general population. 11. List at least three risk factors for exposure in non-hospital based RNs
