Professional Education in Alternative and Complementary Health Practices
Considering how diabetes, cancer, heart disease and other major illnesses are so strongly related to lifestyle, teaching alternative and complementary health practices may prove to be another invaluable resource for health promotion and disease prevention. To ensure adequate preparation in this area, public health and related healthcare preparation programs need to integrate these concepts and methods into both the undergraduate and graduate curricula. Panel participants will discuss the possibilities and challenges of building this new competency area.
Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of the session, the participant (learner) in this session will be able to: 1. Discuss issues related to professional education in alternative and complementary health practices 2. explore the opportunities and challenges of building ACHP as a new competency area in public health and related health care preparation programs.
