Issues in Suicide Research
Suicide is a public health problem that affects not just individuals but also their families and communities. Suicide research involves the study of both completers and attempters of suicide. Presentations in this session will examine several risk factors associated with suicide as well as a method for classifying undetermined deaths as suicide or unintentional.
Learning Objectives: Describe the relation between firearm ownership and rates of suicide for men, women by age group. Identify modifiable factors that reduce risk behavior prevalence among children with a history of physical abuse. Recognize the importance of accurate reporting of suicide data for surveillance efforts.
