Creating a Competent Workforce
A competent and sustainable workforce is a national public health goal. This session reviews strategies for achieving this goal. A statebased approach to linking workforce competency and the National Public Health Standards is presented. The role of workplace culture in encouraging job competency is reviewed. A specific example of achieving HIPAA compliance within the workforce provides a real example of training complexity. In addition, a collaborative model for building the pipeline into public health careers is described which links an academic health center, school of public health and the health department.
Learning Objectives: (1)Review systematic approach to linking workforce competency to National Public Health Performance Standards (2)Review a collaborative model for building an educational and experiential pipeline into health careers.
