Reflections on Hurricane Katrina with an Eye to the Future: How can Sections and SPIGS Prepare for Future Public Health Disaster Events?
This session will feature a collaborative panel from several APHA Sections/SPIGS to address lessons learned from the public health response to Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. As a late breaker, panelists are still unnamed; they will represent experts and leaders from the following Sections/SPIGs that have expressed an interest in participating: Health Administration, Epidemiology, Medical Care, Community Health Planning and Policy Development, Social Work, Mental Health, Community Health Worker SPIG, and possibly other groups. The discussion will incorporate priorities from the APHA Katrina Task Force recommendations.
Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of this session, participants will be able to: 1) Identify lessons learned from the public health response to Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. 2) Describe the APHA Katrina Task Force recommendations.
