APHA President Session: APHA President Session: Funding for Prevention: A Global Perspective
This special presidential session will examine international policies for funding prevention. We will examine how Europe and specifically the United Kingdom have made a national commitment toward prevention. We will examine lessons on funding prevention in America. This special session is in partnership with Public Health, the International Journal of the Royal Institute of Public Health, published by Elsevier.
Learning Objectives: Describe the processes taken in Europe and the United Kingdom that led to support funding prevention. Discuss why preventing risky health behaviour and its consequences - e.g.obesity - is more cost effective than treating obesity. Discuss some of the problems faced in funding preventive services. Discuss the application of some of these issues within the US context.
