Project EXPORT: Building Infrastructure and Capacity to Reduce Health Disparities Through Health Promotion and Disease Prevention
To eliminate health disparities, health education and public health entities must work together effectively. The presenters in this session will describe the development of a partnership to eliminate disparities in childhood obesity and diabetes. Presentations will include details on the challenges and opportunities faced in developing such a partnership. Speakers will also describe specific interventions.
Learning Objectives: At the end of this session, participants will be able to:
  1. Explain the establishment of an effective partnership between a research institution, a health center and a historically black institution;
  2. Discuss the need for research to delineate the causes of health disparities; and
  3. Describe interventions to reduce childhood obesity and implement evidence-based diabetes self-management education.
