The Development, Impact, and Future Needs of Interactive Web-based Data Dissemination Systems for Public Health Data: Tools for Community Health Assessment and Policy Development
In the last decade, the development of interactive queryable web-based data dissemination systems has made access to public health data easier and faster. It has been recognized that many of systems have been developed independently with minimal coordination and lack of standardization. This session will summarize the findings of a summit discussing the core features and functionality of Web-based data dissemination systems. The purpose is provide guidelines to new users in the planning and development process while providing insights to those considering modifications and upgrades to existing systems.
Learning Objectives: The session will consist of a moderator and three speakers. The speakers will include: Dr. Annie Gjilsivk (Rhode Island Department of Health), Dr. Lois Haggard (Utah Department of Health) and Dr. Daniel Friedman (Population & Public Health Information Services). The goals will be: 1) To present and discuss the organizational structure and barriers in the development and maintenance of these system; 2) To present methods to evaluate the impact such systems have on public health practice; and, 3) To present and offer recommendations for future developments in WDDS relating to uses, functions, interfaces, components, and data sets.
