| In this session, the learner will hear about the use of several different methods. These methods include spatial analysis to determine neighborhood effects on mental disorders, using GIS to calculate a health condition index based on the Pan American Health Organization Healthy Condition Index, the use of BRFSS data for ecological analyses, and a method for doing population projections of certain health conditions for small geographical areas. | |||
| Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of the session, the participant (learner) will be able to: 1. Describe and assess the potential uses and applications of mathematical models and especially agent-based models to the understandinfg of public health problems 2. Discuss the advantages of measuring neighborhood characteristics in local circular areas centered on individuals, rather than within administrative boundaries 3. understand the methods used to produce a pragmatic population projection for small geographical areas 4. Describe the methods used to conduct ecological analyses using BRFSS and other data 5. Describe the Pan American Health Organization Healthy Condition Index | |||
