Strategies for Improving Health in Underserved Populations
This session will discuss the prevalence of health disparities in a host of preventable diseases such as cancer, diabetes, HIV/AIDS, syphilis and Cardiovacular diseases. Strategies for involving minorities in research studies will be explored. Frameworks for understanding public health issues will also be introduced. A report on a five year, multi state prevention program will also be described.
Learning Objectives: 1) Identify innovative and effective strategies for recruiting African-Americans into research studies; 2) Describe Disparities elimination goals and strategies: identify steps to developing exercise programs for women with health limitations; Explore role of culture in program development and implementation.
