Evidence-based Models of Child Care Health Consultant Programs for the Prevention of Asthma, Child Maltreatment and Obesity
The rising prevalence of environmental hazards and childhood obesity associated with serious medical complications and economic costs signals a need for evidence-based intervention programs. This session will present four community based programs for addressing obesity and indoor environmental hazards in child care settings.
Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of this session participants will be able to: 1. identify and discuss 5 health and safety hazards that put children in child care at risk. 2. discuss the components of developing a childhood obesity program for implementation within a primary care setting. 3. identify diferences in prevalence of overweight among infants by age at initiating non- parental child care. 4. identify appropriate outcome measures for a community based program for childhood overweight.
