Maternal, Infant and Child Health Epidemiology
In this session, the learner will hear about pregnancy-related issues for twins, preterm delivery, and alcohol and tobacco use in the third trimester of pregnancy. Other topics relate to infant and children including risk factors for mortality, birth defects, and childhood obesity.
Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of the session, the participant (learner) will be able to: 1. Recognize delaying delivery of twin pregnancy to 40 weeks of gestation carries a substantially increased risk of neonatal death to both first and second twins 2. Describe trends in alcohol and tobacco use by women in California during the third trimester of pregnancy 3. Identify socioeconomic risk factors for childhood obesity 4. Participants will be able to recognize the major risk factors for death among children in Maryland 5. Identify shared risk factors and prevention strategies for preterm birth and birth defects
