Exploring Health Disparities
Disparities in health outcomes create important challenges for health promotion. The speakers in this session will discuss various programs that address health disparities and involve communities in preventive strategies. Individual presentations will describe interventions to improve health literacy, teach evidence-based approaches and prevent chronic diseases.
Learning Objectives: At the end of this session, participants will be able to:
  1. Describe the link between health literacy and health outcomes;
  2. Identify interventions that address disparities in birth outcomes and other health outcomes; and
  3. Discuss factors that influence the effectiveness of health promotion activities to address disparities in the community.
